This is the coooooolest story I have read in a long time.

"Sun's Atmosphere Sings

Jeanna Bryner

SPACE.com Thu Apr 19, 11:30 AM ET

Astronomers have recorded heavenly music bellowed out by the Sun's atmosphere.

Snagging orchestra seats for this solar symphony would be fruitless, however, as the frequency of the sound waves is below the human hearing threshold. While humans can make out sounds between 20 and 20,000 hertz, the solar sound waves are on the order of milli-hertz--a thousandth of a hertz.

The study, presented this week at the Royal Astronomical Society's National Astronomy Meeting in Lancashire, England, reveals that the looping magnetic fields along the Sun's outer regions, called the corona, carry magnetic sound waves in a similar manner to musical instruments such as guitars or pipe organs.

Making music

Robertus von Fay-Siebenburgen of the Solar Physics and Space Plasma Research Center at the University of Sheffield and his colleagues combined information gleaned from sun-orbiting satellites with theoretical models of solar processes, such as coronal mass ejections.

They found that explosive events at the Sun's surface appear to trigger acoustic waves that bounce back and forth between both ends of the loops, a phenomenon known as a standing wave.

"These magnetic loops are analogous to a simple guitar string," von Fay-Siebenburgen explained. "If you pluck a guitar string, you will hear the music."

In the cosmic equivalent of a guitar pick, so-called microflares at the base of loops could be plucking the magnetic loops and setting the sound waves in motion, the researchers speculate. While solar flares are the largest explosions in the solar system, microflares are a million times smaller but much more frequent; both phenomena are now thought to funnel heat into the Sun's outer atmosphere.

The acoustic waves can be extremely energetic, reaching heights of tens of miles, and can travel at rapid speeds of 45,000 to 90,000 miles per hour. "These [explosions] release energy equivalent to millions of hydrogen bombs," von Fay-Siebenburgen said.

"These energies are plucking these magnetic strings or standing pipes, which set up standing waves--exactly the same waves you see on a guitar string," von Fay-Siebenburgen told SPACE.com. The "sound booms" decay to silence in less than an hour, dissipating in the hot solar corona.

Solar physics

The musical finding could help explain why the Sun's corona is so hot.

While the Sun's surface is a steamy 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit (5,538 degrees Celsius), plasma gas in the corona soars to more than 100 times hotter.

"How can the atmosphere above the surface of the Sun be hotter if nuclear fusion happens inside the Sun?" von Fay-Siebenburgen said. If astronomers can get a clearer picture of what's going on inside these magnetic loops in the Sun's atmosphere, they have a better chance of finding the answer.

Another recent study using images from Hinode's telescope revealed twisted magnetic fields along the Sun's surface, which store huge amounts of energy. The magnetic fields can snap like a rubber band; when they do, they might release energy that could heat up the corona or power solar eruptions and coronal mass ejections, the researchers say. "

I knew it the whole time!

Celebrity Like Me

OH BROTHER, Sisters and brothers! What must I do? How long must I strive with Ya'll?

OK. It's not Jane & Joe americAn's fault... I mean, we don't control the media...

What they broadcast is out of our control... right?

I woke up, singing Brittney Spears version of "My Prerogative"... I had a series of thought on this... My first flashed to the video for the song. Spears' stunt double drives the mega-expensive sports ride, into a swimming pool... hey, it's "[her] prerogative"... That song is not that old, you know... (look up the copyright, will you Deary?) Was, she trying to say something with that video? Certainly the lyrics, in retrospect are poinient (for Brown then and Spears now)... Flash forward, to her head shave, and back slightly to her panty-less Vegas outing with Hilton... HMMMM.

No body, mentioned the Star Of David in the media, except me... I can't find one photo of it on the web... (I guess she never wore it... wink- Britney-)... The press was too struck with her scalp, to notice the look in her eyes...

It seems americAns are that way...

They notice what ever the media wants them to, and nothing else... sigh...

Maybe, we like that these millionaire starlets have problems... like me. Like you.

The thing is, despite the medias focus... And the publics lack of it... There is a reason that these girls act this way.

First of all, they are just friggin kids... give me a break. Who the hell hasn't gotten high, and done something risk-A in Vegas? Yes... it's true, Spears was naked most of her life. An object, out the starting gate. That's why this photo by David LaChapelle featured above is so brilliant. He makes a startling statement... Britney Spears was and IS molested by the camera. By the industry. By America. The contrast between the little girls room, and the little girls sexy outfit speaks volumes, to a blind, deaf, and dumb audience... Why does she use drugs? To cope with this... Hang in Brit, you're gonna be fine.

Then I flashed on Lohans lyrics. The first time I listen to this song, I wept a little for her... Perhaps if americAns were more in tune as to what might motivate behavior, rather then the acting out it's self, they would be far less titilated by these young women. Please read Lindsay Lohan's lyrics, and try to see where she is coming from:

----Confessions Of A Broken Heart

I wait for the postman to bring me a letter
I wait for the good Lord to make me feel better
And I carry the weight of the world on my shoulders
A family in crisis that only grows older

Why'd you have to go?

Daughter to father, daughter to father
I am broken but I am hoping
Daughter to father, daughter to father
I am crying, a part of me is dying and
These are, these are
The confessions of a broken heart

And I wear all your old clothes, your polo sweater
I dream of another you
The one who would never (never)
Leave me alone to pick up the pieces
A daddy to hold me, that's what I needed

Why'd you have to go!!

Daughter to father, daughter to father
I don't know you, but I still want to
Daughter to father, daughter to father
Tell me the truth, did you ever love me
Cause these are, these are
The confessions of a broken heart

I love you,
I love you
I love you
I....!!!!!
I love you!!

I wait for the postman to bring me a letter..

--------------

As for Hilton, I just want to say, she too, was abandoned. Though her GAZILLIONAIRE daddy never left physically... You can't raise an empire, and daughters at the same time... or can you?

So, why do the tabloids sizzle about these three young women becoming friends? What makes you a friend with someone? Common background, is it not?

Ladies, I know as well as you do, that, there is no way you're not going to be filmed and photoed. I would just encourage you to seek a level of transparency where it counts. Alone in your rooms. The media wont tell the truth... but your still small voice will.

KUDOS... SISTAZ, FINALLY FEELING RIGHTEOUS ANGER... (what took Ya'll so long?)

This mornings paper had the following article as it's lead story. Sisters and Brothers, I have been saying this from the inception and infiltration of BRATZ Dolls on americA. I am cheering today, because parents and leaders are FINALLY echoing my cries, (are they also filled with tears, I wonder?). This marketing campaign, that includes a Saturday morning cartoon show, is insidious, and joins other similar cartoons, (TROLLS, etc...), in brain washing our future leaders into a life of misery, by teaching ineffectual witchcraft, idolatry, and outright prostitution, as not only normal, but the 'coolest way to be'.

This an excellent article, I would encourage you to read it, and heed it's warnings. Let us not be culpable in creating a generation or ten, that begins life as baby hookers. Read on.

5-year-olds in fish nets Study links early sexualization to eating disorders, depression
MELISSA DAHL - SACRAMENTO BEE

From advertisements to magazine covers, the image of the promiscuous girl is being celebrated.

With her hit "Promiscuous," singer Nelly Furtado sold more albums than ever once she sexed up her image. Party girls Paris and Britney forget underwear for a night out, and teen girls echo those images on their MySpace pages.

All this has caught the attention of parents, educators and authors, and it also has caught the attention of the American Psychological Association, which last week released a report called "The Sexualization of Girls."

In the report, six female psychologists and educators argue that these images are damaging to girls' self-image and mental health, teaching them to objectify themselves.

Anecdotal evidence is all over pop culture:

Bratz dolls, designed for 4-to-8-year-olds, flew off the shelves last year. The dolls are known for their sexy clothing -- miniskirts, fishnet stockings and feather boas. But what concerns experts more is what the Bratz do -- or, actually, what they don't do.

"They're marketed as a sexy, Paris Hilton version of teens," says Lyn Mikel Brown, a professor of education at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and author of "Packaging Girlhood". Bratz are about fashion, shopping, clubbing and not much else, Brown says. But Boyz, their male counterparts, exit their boxes ready for action, equipped with soccer balls and skate boards.

Singer Fergie's latest CD was listed by Amazon.com as one of the top 10 things "every teen girl wants for the holidays."

The CD included the song "Fergalicious" -- which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart -- and included lyrics insisting that Fergie is not "easy," "sleazy" or "promiscuous."

Fergie sings those lyrics in her video while wearing a tiny Girl Scout uniform -- a cropped, midriff-baring top and a short, pleated skirt. She also dons a bathing suit and rolls in cake, singing about how "delicious" she is.

Clothing stores for 'tweens are increasingly selling sexy clothes, such as camisoles, lacy panties and thongs.

"Attitude" T-shirts are available for all ages, such as the Abercrombie and Fitch tees that a group of Pennsylvania teens "girlcotted." Among the slogans were: "Blondes are Adored, Brunettes are Ignored" and "Who needs brains when you have these?"

A real-life crew of Bratz -- Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan -- is currently more famous for partying than talent. Entertainment blogs and YouTube let us follow their every move -- rehab stints, DUIs and those nights when underwear just didn't go with the outfit.

Educators argue that this cultural shift toward female sexualization is teaching girls to value their own sexiness as a commodity, as something that can be traded for power, money, popularity or winning the boys.

"It's almost like sexualization keeps them in their place; it keeps them down," says Tomi-Ann Roberts, one of the authors of the APA study and a professor of psychology at Colorado College. "It reminds you to stay an object of others' admiration as opposed to a human being of competence."

The sexy-is-powerful trend could be traced all the way back to the 19th century, but experts believe that in recent years, it seems to have stemmed from the "girl power" focus in the late '90s -- the years of female empowerment programs for girls. The third-wave feminist movement introduced the notion that women could be into wearing pink high heels and still be powerful, successful and smart.

"Marketers picked up on the prettiness and left the real power stuff behind," Brown says. "It's sold as an image of power, but it's not changing-the-world kind of power. It's choosing between mango lip gloss and cherry lip gloss."

The APA report links sexualization with three of the most common mental health problems of girls and women: eating disorders, low self-esteem and depression. Some of the negative consequences, according to the report, include:

Constant comparison between one's own body and cultural standards, leading to feelings of inadequacy and shame.

A tendency to focus more on a partner's judgments of one's appearance than on one's own desires, safety and pleasure.

A significant jump in plastic surgery for teens between 2000 and 2005. Invasive cosmetic surgery increased 15 percent, and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, such as botox injections, chemical peels or laser hair removal, increased 7 percent.

The most common procedures sought by teens are breast enlargements, nose and ear reshaping, and liposuction, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Gasping Last Breath, With Deep Sea Diver Sounds

STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP, is, as I predicted gone from NBC... I would love for all readers of Groove Damage, to play a part in saving good TV... Please sign this petition to keep Studio 60 alive... My signature comment post was crunched there, so, here is how it's supposed to look...

-----Studio 60 is a brilliant show, for a myriad of reasons. Why can't the execs at NBC be like the ones portrayed on the show? Fighting that which is corrupt and wrong with television, and striving for a more literate America? This is uplifting programming that is neither saccharin, nor schmaltzy. Why must "Hollywood" remove that which is redeeming, for that which is mafioso dark? It is wrong to remove this show from the airwaves. Worst case scenario, it should be moved to sister station Bravo, and remain in full production... Best case, NBC will find a more suitable slot for Studio 60, and keep one of the finest Dramas ever produced alive. Prime Time TV is awash with filth, murder, fornication for titillation, and is in desperate need of the o2 that Sorkins' show provides. For the record, not only would I personally buy the DVD set for myself, but would present them to friends and family as gifts, to demonstrate that TV is not a dead art form... remove this show, and you will be guilty of conspiracy to kill all that is good and right in this country. We the viewers of Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, implore you to do something noble, and allow this show, still in infancy, to flourish into a full grown favorite... for once, let money not be the issue... Shalom Brittney

I wittnessed the report this morning that Brittney Spears has shorn her golden locks, and checked into rehab. Of course not one of the so called journalists mentioned the Star Of David draped across her back. But this is the kind of symbology that we at Groove Damage are in tune to. I recognize that it is the sacred symbol, and not the quaff that deserves the focus. The fact that "teen queen" Spears has gone Sinead, tells me that God is calling her back. Like the women of Zion stricken bald headed in Issiahs prophesy, she is craving the real connection to her creator, the one that is ours for the asking, but that vainity seperates us from. With tears I pray for Peace for Miss Spears. I lovingly urge this child to return to the religion of her youth. Return to the faith of your grandparents, Brittney. You have heard the truth. The camera eyes of the world are watching, but none can see your shattered heart. In your broken state, with your contrite spirit on your sleeve, you have never looked more beautiful. May you recognize that you have chosen the right thing, and that it is first step on your true journey. Do the work required at Crossroads, and your inner-Truth, will set you free.

To those with ears to hear, Shalu Shalom Brittney Spears. basar = without deficiency, whole and complete. One day at a time.

Not Removed From, But Transitioning Thru Material: The Matrix As Is In Infancy. My Mind Is My Own

The harrowing events of the past year have served to awaken me to the reality of my own creation. I have played a part in the manifestation of the current circumstance, and I recognize but do not resent them. The fact of my participation in the dream Matrix, frees me to write of it, it's technicians, and mechanisims. The new helmsmen are twice as viscious as their predecesors. However, I do not fear their abilities, nor the colective creative resources of their perverse imagination(s), as supperior to mine own. I am the daughter of the Ultimate Creative Spirit, and am able to think and create, as It is. Yesterday, today, and forever. My life is my intellectual property. I am free to write of them, and speak boldly to, and with those whom, too, have entered into this abominal covenant with the power of darkness. I fear no government, court, or Army, poised and ready to devour me and my beloved. The innocent blood shed durring this transition, by those powers that seek to destroy humanities free will, will be avenged, as it now cries from the ground for God's justice. I am to be their biographer, and will champion the sacrifice made by their bodies. You, will read of them here. I am the voice of one crying through a satellite transmitter. I am the artist. I am the subject of song, prayer, and petition to the Almighty. I am free to write and perform as I see fit, to alert the unknowing and unsuspecting, of the impending doom that awaits. I will, as a stewart of gifts from on High, use my talents in the "...[G]lory of God and refreshment of the human Spirit."

"An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but never break." - Ancient Chinese Belief

I found the above quote, and started thinking how this journey has been for me. How the big players in my life, were guided into into it and vice versa. How many forks I have stood at...

Though it has been extremely arduous to deal with this last, and biggest task, the one I now find myself near the end of... It has been the most growing. The best thing I could have chosen.

I chose well.

I HATE THE PHRASE "COMING OF AGE"

I don't know who said it, but it really is true; "No statue will ever be erected in honor of a critic."

Why do these so called commentators, always use the same tired and cliche' verbage to describe films?

This time it has been used to describe the drama, DREAMLAND.

Dreamland is a trailer park underneath the power lines, in the New Mexico end of the Mojave Desert.

This is a poetic script written by Tom Willett, and the images on the screen are as beautiful as the dialog.

Dreamland deals with loss, disease, friendship, community, and true love. It is a gorgeously sad movie. Well acted, and worth renting.

The music is by Photek and the score is written by Anthony Marinelli. Both are perfect for this film.

I had jotted so much more in my note book for this post, but I think I've said enough...

Maybe the metaphors used in this film, have me thinking like a poet, and not a critic...

I leave you with this...

To please all people, is to loose your self

you can't let go of a person you do not know

power lines are fine for lighting city streets

but only yielding to yourself can you light your own dreams

desert heat has a way of masking past pain

but a boiling point will bring it to the sand again

love can not be real, lest you are the lover of your own self

become complete, then truly can you love someone else...

Sisterz Of Mary

I just saw a report on a convent in Michigan, that has grown from 4 Nuns all over age 50, to 71 Sisters, most under 30... over a period of 9 years... All I can say is praise God!

This young sister whose blog I found while looking for images, has some extremely lucid thoughts on this phenomenon... please visit her site.

At a time when sex is overloading the minds of the young (and not so young), when "every thing is porno", it is thrilling to see so many women under 30 turning to become one with Christ. These ladies are sacrificing the worldly lifestyle required to function in americAn society, (1st THESSALONIANS 1: "9...how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.") and making a choice to pursue righteousness.

It takes 8 years to become a full fledged Nun, but these women are in the right place, and right frame of mind for the coming tribulation... more testimony that the hour of the Woman has come.

Women who have returned to the God of this Universe, will be the warriors of this age, and rulers of this millennium. Women concerned with being guileful, and being equal with (therefore acting like) men, will be fodder for the fire...

STOMP THE YARD

I wanted to write small shout out to the new Screen Gems release STOMP THE YARD, which I had the pleasure of partaking in this gorgeous January day. I say shout out, because my readers know I try to shy away from both the practice of and the word; review... I hate to give spoilers, and will try not to divulge too much of the film... So, that being said:

STOMP THE YARD

This is a little hyped film in main stream press, but I was thrilled that it graced the screen in sleepy Spanish Fork. Perhaps the new management of Red Carpet Cinema's can read the writing on the wall (not graffiti), and is seeking a more diversified play bill, in light of the changing face of Zion. What ever the reason, Spanish Fork 8, gets an A in race relations...

This movie has some familiar faces, and even features R&B new comer Ne-Yo in a supporting roll. I want to direct my praise though, not so much to name recognition, and instead focus upon the white hot leads played by Meagan Good, and Columbus Short. Short is a featured cast member of the now defunct NBC show, Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip. he was unrecognizable with out the geeky glasses his character Darius sported, but I knew I knew his work from somewhere... I would have loved to see what Sorkin did with his character, had Studio 60 been given some breathing room... as it is, it appears he will have a huge future on the big screen, as he was fantastic in this roll. Perhaps this is a stretch, but as I write this I can't help but think of Johnny Depp, who was able to overcome the "Pretty Boy" stigma, and break into serious acting gigs... Short too, must fight this stereotype, as he is beautiful. But he gives a better then a powerhouse performance, in a film that could easily limit a lessor actor. His on screen metamorphosis, was subtle, and he acted this thing too the rafters. His female lead, Meagan Good also was impressive, with out ever going over the top. I believed her, and that is the goal of any good actor. Though I have not seen her before, I am sure I will in the future. This film, set on the campus of Truth University, blasted the possibility of stereotypical "black" portrails, by being for the most part an original film. Never seeking to describe the differences in cultures, rather focusing on the strong and righteous Black Leaders who paved the way for all of us.

Now, Stomp The Yard could be given a cursory once over and easily compared (and subsequently dismissed)to other collegiate, competition films, but director Sylvain White, and director of photography Scott Kevan work together to give Stomp The Yard a completely original look. The color composition, was tremendous, and brought a life to the celluloid seldom seen before, if ever. That would perhaps be enough, but the Directorial team pioneered a new style of filming here. This is reason enough to see the movie. The use of hand held shots and montage memory footage have been done before, but not like this... However, it's the dance/step sequences that were the most amazing of all... Choreography aside, I have never seen this technique used in filming before... It almost defies definition, but as a writer I must try to encapsulate it for you... though I know I can not describe what you must let your senses be a a part of... The opening dance battle, looked as if it had been shot in time elapse mode, then slowed down to be in real time... I know that makes no sense... but it was truly a unique camera effect, and I am very curious how they got it...

I think this was a tremendous film, and a few flaws aside, will stand as a landmark movie, for reasons mentioned above... no doubt people will be seeking to carbon copy this style, but Stomp The Yard will always be an original.

Another thing that set STY apart was the down play of hip hop music. Usually so prevalent in "this type" of movie, music was not used to manipulate emotions from the audience. The actors drew plenty of emotion out for me, with out the help of a borderline cheesy urban soundtrack... the score was just right... the dance music sometimes non existent, as the steppers handled most of their own cadence...

I hate to ad one negative note to this post, but I must be honest. The tutor sequence, reminded me ever so slightly of Omar Epps and Hale Berry in the Program. This thought quickly faded, as #1, Columbus Short and Meagan Good are dynamite actors, and #2, though the scene (and for that matter the movie) was slightly similar to the 90's film, the plot and character back stories were different enough to move through with out too much comparison... (obviously enough to write about it here... sorry guys...but I do so with love!)

So Sisters and Brothers, in my final analysis, this is a very enjoyable movie. The names to watch for from this point forward are Sylvain White & Scott Kevan. Columbus Short & Meagan Good.

CHARLES GIBSON HELPS THE NAZIS

I am appalled my Beloved! NAY! I AM MAD AS HEAVEN!!!
In a 4 second blurb on January 4, 2007s edition of the ABC Nightly News, Charles "Bend Over America" Gibson, "reported", that the President has just signed into law the Government's right to search letters sent through the United States Postal Service. Gibson said that Bush said that "We will push this as far as we can...", and went on to say that it was "not proven that mail had been opened already"...

Then with out a pause Charlie "McCarthy" Gibson, went to a so-called related story, about the 4 diet drug manufacturer law suits with the U.S. Gov't... he barely had time to take a breath before the subject was changed... This is our media americA... doing the job that the feds pay them to do.
SLIGHT OF HAND!

Watch the birdie Kids, WHAMMO... your civil liberties are demolished! here's a Prozac lolly pop...

This is what Shasta Fletcher calls "Bush & his fucking Axis of Evil"...

I lost my appetite... I spit... I informed you here at GROOVE DAMAGE II...

I went to the web and tried to find mention of the story... I went to the white house site... there is no mention of this heinous, wicked, infamous, flagrant, flagitious, atrocious, villainous, nefarious, act perpetrated on the good people of americA...

But here is an article in the ABC website:

"ABC News
Bush: Government Can Open Your Mail
White House Says It Has Always Had Such Power, to Be Used in 'Extraordinary Circumstances'

Jan. 4, 2007 — - President Bush says he and other government officials have the power to snoop through your mail without a judge's warrant.

Bush made the claim last month in a signing statement attached to a postal reform bill. Bush wrote that the bill "provides for opening of an item of a class of mail otherwise sealed against inspection."

After last year's revelation of Bush's secret domestic eavesdropping program, the move caused waves on Capitol Hill among some legislators who said that it contradicted the postal reform bill, as well as existing law.

"Despite the president's statement that he may be able to circumvent a basic privacy protection, the new postal law continues to prohibit the government from snooping into people's mail without a warrant," Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., said to the New York Daily News.

Waxman, the incoming House Government Reform Committee chairman, co-sponsored the bill.

But White House spokeswoman Emily Lawrimore said today that the signing statement was meant merely "to clarify that he already has the authority" to open mail in certain emergencies.

"The president is not claiming any 'new authority,'" the White House said in a new statement. "The signing statement merely recognizes a legal proposition that is totally uncontroversial: that in certain circumstances -- such as with the proverbial 'ticking bomb' -- the Constitution does not require warrants for reasonable searches."

Lawrimore said such presidential power would not infringe upon Americans' privacy, because it "would only be used in extraordinary circumstances."

The Dec. 20 signing statement said the president had the power to check mail "in a manner consistent, to the maximum extent permissible, with the need to conduct searches in exigent circumstances, such as to protect human life and safety against hazardous materials, and the need for physical searches specifically authorized by law for foreign intelligence collection."

Privacy experts were divided on whether the president was simply asserting his established authority, particularly because the bill authorized a new class of express mail that could not be inspected without a warrant.

"This is like a courier service for drug dealers or terrorists," said Brian Walsh, a scholar at the Heritage Foundation. "I don't know what Congress was thinking. We have a long history of inspecting mail during wartime, including mail that came from GIs during World War II."

Walsh adds that this authority has rarely been invoked. "I don't think we have any reason to belive that there has been a widespread inspection of Americans' mail or that there will be."

But Jonathan Hafetz, litigation director at the Brennan Center for Justice, sees the president's move as another attempt to bypass Congress and lawful mechanisms for protecting security.

"It's in keeping with the administration's unlawful policies on detention, torture and electronic eavesdropping," Hafetz said. "This is another example of runaway executive power stomping on Americans' privacy and speech rights."

There is a lower legal standard for the government to search media mail, which includes packages containing books, manuscripts, sound recordings, recorded videotapes and computer-readable media, and for "mail covers," which is the address information on the outside of the envelope.

As for international mail coming into the United States, the government already has the right to open those letters without a warrant. Under a trade act passed in 2002, 107 H.R. 3009, Congress expanded the Custom Service's ability to open international mail without a warrant.

When it comes to electronic mail, the government may not need a warrant to search your messages. By claiming that your e-mail is stored on third-party servers held by Yahoo and such companies and citing the Stored Communications Act, the government doesn't need to get access to your personal computer at home in order to read your e-mail.

In a recent mail-fraud case, the Federal Trade Commission and FBI simply obtained a court order -- not a warrant -- to access the e-mail accounts of Steven Warshak, a businessman who sells male enhancement products online.
